Tooth-Colored Fillings
We all dread the discovery of cavities during a visit to the dentist. But cavities affect everyone, from children to the elderly. The good news is that today’s composite materials allow for incredibly sturdy, custom-colored fillings that blend naturally with the tooth’s color and are durable enough to withstand any lifestyle.
Porcelain Inlays/Onlays
When fillings aren’t sufficient, but a tooth isn’t so damaged as to require a crown, porcelain inlays and onlays are often considered. An inlay is a custom-formed insert of dental-grade porcelain attached with adhesive to the inside of the prepared tooth surface. When the tooth has been damaged outside the upper edge, a porcelain onlay that wraps slightly around the upper portion of the tooth is applied similarly.
Crowns & Bridges
When a tooth is significantly damaged or decayed to a point where most of the upper portion of the tooth needs to be removed, a dental crown uses the still healthy portion of the tooth leading to the root. After removing the damaged or decayed portion, a custom artificial tooth is made and attached with dental adhesive for a natural-looking solution. In situations with a gap to be filled, teeth on either side of the gap are crowned, with those crowns on either side of one or more artificial teeth that fill the gap.
Dentures & Partials
A long time ago, dentures and partials were known as “false teeth.” But today, nothing is false-looking about them. Contemporary materials and technologies have made dentures and partials look great, fit better, and last longer than anything in the past. A denture tends to be an entire set of upper or lower artificial teeth set into a gum-colored base. A partial is just what it sounds like – a section of artificial teeth.
Endodontics
The treatment of issues affecting the soft tissue inside the teeth is called endodontics. Inside your teeth is a substance called “pulp,” made up of blood vessels and nerves. If tooth decay breaks through, infecting the pulp, the inner portion of the tooth will need specific treatment. The most common endodontic treatment is a root canal, where infected pulp is removed and replaced with an inert material that keeps the root in place.
Oral Surgery
Oral surgery refers to surgical procedures that are more involved or invasive than standard dental procedures. It can be used to remove impacted wisdom teeth, alleviate jaw pain, and remove lesions of concern inside the mouth, among other issues. Some oral surgeries are performed in our office, while others are referred to a trusted oral-maxillofacial surgeon.
